Andis BallMenuTM

Revolutionary physics-based menu-navigation framework.

Andis BallMenuTM is a new innovative web-site navigation tool by Andreas Ipp. It provides a perfect blend between physics, user interaction experience, and site navigation.

  • The ball menu consists of balls moving around according to the laws of physics: elastic impact, friction, gravitation, and so on are all modelled according to the laws of physics.

  • An innovative mouse interaction scheme allows moving the balls without ever clicking a mouse button. Balls under the mouse pointer intuitively follow the mouse and they can be accelerated or shooted against other balls.

  • Intelligent menus provide direct access to most web pages.

  • Optimized for speed: the ball menu JavaScript code is extremely fast and tested for cross-browser capability on Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, Opera, and Mozilla (cross-browser programming).

  • Fast download time: The complete application consists of 47 kByte of JavaScript and CSS code (about 2000 lines of code) and 30 kByte of graphics. They are downloaded only once per session, residing in the cache of the client side. A webpage only needs a few lines of HTML code to make use of the balls menu. The menus are created on-the-fly on the client machine.

Learn about the physics

  • The physics behind the scenes
Learn about the physics behind Andis BallMenuTM. Experience ball-bouncing, gravity, friction, energy-conservation and more.

  • Cross-browser Dynamic HTML
The implementation in Cross-Browser Dynamic HTML (DHMTL) uses Alladyn and proprietary browser-dependent code. Learn more about Cross-Browser JavaScript development.

Tip: You can access the menu on every page by clicking on the yellow "Programming" ball.

Notice about my JavaScript Code: You are free to use the cross-browser specific part of my code in browserspecific.js. If you want to use the JavaScript physics engine ballnavigation.js or the menu-preparation-module menupreparation.js, I kindly ask you to notify me and put a link on your web-page pointing to this web-site (strange.itp.tuwien.ac.at/~ipp).
