FIRST CIRCULAR
(March 2005)
Dear Colleague,
This is the first announcement of a 2½ day workshop on
"Quark-Gluon-Plasma Thermalization" to be held at the
Technical University of Vienna, Austria, August 10-12, 2005 –
immediately after the Quark Matter 2005 conference in Budapest,
from where it takes under 3 hours to reach the center of
Vienna e.g. by train.
Aim and scope:
The RHIC experimental and theoretical communities have claimed strong
evidence for the attainment of local thermalization in high energy
nuclear collisions, arising very early in the evolution of the
fireball ( < 1 fm/c). The aim of this 2½ day post-QM05 workshop is to
examine critically the experimental and theoretical evidence for
thermalization, in greater depth than is possible at Quark Matter
itself. The broad questions to be addressed are:
- what are the experimental and interpretational uncertainties of the
claim for thermalization, and how can they be resolved?
- can rapid thermalization be understood from first-principles theory?
- what are the key experimental and theoretical developments needed in
the short and long term?
We aim for an informal atmosphere, with plenty of time for open
discussion. We strongly encourage contributions from experts at the
beginning of their careers (postdocs and senior PhD students).
Organization:
We have set up this web-page,
where you can pre-register, i.e. inform us about your potential
interest to participate and have you included in our mailing list
for further announcement (only this first announcement has been sent
out to all the people on the mailing list of QM05).
Depending on the response, we shall pre-book a number rooms in a
few reasonably priced hotels, but the booking of accommodation will
eventually be left to the individual participants. Correspondingly,
there will only be a minor registration fee to cover our expenses
for coffee and the like. For further information, see the above
web-page.
We hope to be able to welcome you this summer in Vienna,
Chris Fabjan & Anton Rebhan
