Contents:
- Introduction to the unification of natural forces in (Super) String Theory:
Polyakov action, conformal gauge, BRST quantization, physical states and critical dimension, conformal field theory
Date and Time:
- The lecture will take place every Wednesday from 12:00 to 14:00 in the Seminar room of the Institute of theoretical physics, E136, in the 10th floor of the yellow tower.
- There will be a preliminairy meeting on wednesday, 7th of march.
Prerequisites:
- Some elementary knowledge of field theory and quantum mechanics is needed. Although
knowing quantum field theory is of advantage, most of the concepts that are needed will be explained
from the perspective of string theory in this course.
Literature:
- We will mostly follow the script of Max Kreuzer.
Classic Textbooks include:
- J.Polchinski - String Theory
- M.Green, J.Schwarz, E.Witten - Superstring Theory
- B.Zwiebach - A first course in String Theory
- M.Becker,K.Becker,J.Schwarz - String Theory and M-Theory
- E.Kiritsis - Introduction to Superstring Theory
- Note that there are many good lecture notes availiable online ! (see e.g. here)
